Where to drink in Belgrade this autumn: cosy wine bars in Vračar
September flips a switch in Belgrade. The terraces start to empty, the evenings get a bite to them, and the whole city moves indoors — toward low light, a glass of something warming, and a table you don't have to give up when the sun goes down. Autumn is quietly the best drinking season here, and Vračar is where to spend it.
Why autumn suits Vračar
Vračar is a neighbourhood built for cold-weather evenings: narrow streets, warm-lit windows, and bars small enough to feel full and cosy rather than echoing. When the summer crowds thin out, the neighbourhood settles back into its natural rhythm — unhurried, local, and made for staying in one place all night.
It's orange wine season
Autumn is when heavier, textured wines come into their own, and this is peak time for orange (skin-contact) wine — amber, tannic, a little wild, perfect against the first cold nights. At Čin Čin we keep an organic orange-wine list (an Austrian Meinklang, a Czech Nestarec) alongside reds built for the season, from Serbian Kadarka to Barbaresco. Warm cocktails for cold nights
Autumn is also when the darker, richer cocktails make sense. Our Serbian Breakfast — dark rum, bourbon and coffee liqueur, served under a cloud of smoke — practically is autumn in a glass, and the Bounty (rum infused with cocoa and chocolate) drinks like dessert by candlelight. What a cosy Vračar night looks like
Start after dark — the light matters in autumn. Take a corner table, order a glass of orange or a smoked cocktail, get a wine plate for the table (olives, prosciutto, gorgonzola, nuts), and let the evening go long. There's no terrace turnover to rush you out; the whole point of the season is that you can stay.
